John Van Horn, LUX. Denver Advisor
Since childhood, John has lived in various areas around the United States and has experienced many cultural lifestyles. He enlisted into the Air Force (2002-2008) as an aircraft mechanic and flew with many missions during a special duty assignment for two years. After an honorable discharge, John earned a degree in Geosciences while walking onto his college football team as the “old guy.” He was funded through a drone research grant for his master’s degree in Geosciences and decided to start a drone business following school.
While John was completing his master’s degree, he joined a high-volume real estate team as an exclusive listing agent to learn the business first hand. He ended up selling over 30 homes in his first ten months and became proficient at closing real estate transactions with various financing types. John found a passion for real estate and client relations, and after a brief time in the startup space, decided to return to the real estate world in Denver, Colorado. John has found alignment with the LUX. Denver team and looks forward to continuing his impact in the community as a real estate broker.
Q&A with John
1. What do you love about your job?
I consider a job as an excellent tool to serve the community using a set of specialized skills. I love using the skills from my real estate experience to attenuate the stress for my clients and to offer them a high level of real estate services to reach their goals.
2. What sets you apart from the competition?
Listening to and understanding the truth of a client’s situation allows me to tailor my services to best fit their needs. Once I understand my client’s situation, then I can adjust the systematic process that will fulfill my client’s goals. Of course, client relations is only a part of the overall transaction. The other part I specialize in is having a solid foundation of extensive market knowledge, negotiation strategies, and meticulous contract practices.
3. Who do you most enjoy working with?
I actually like the curious, careful, and skeptical clients, because their gratitude after the transaction comes from the heart.
4. Why did you choose LUX. Denver?
The real estate industry has been operating with an archaic model for years now, and I wanted to transfer my license to a brokerage that invests their time and capital to grow in the future market. After my due diligence, it became apparent that LUX. Denver has positioned itself for sustainable growth, optimized client relations, and strong company culture for future success in real estate.
5. What organizations are you passionate about being involved with?
I received the Tillman Scholarship in 2012 through the Pat Tillman Foundation. Since then, I have witnessed our community grow to over 600 Tillman Scholars, representing leadership roles in medicine, law, science, policy, business, and many other industries. As a current co-captain of the Denver Tillman Scholar chapter, the Pat Tillman Foundation has a special place in my heart!
6. What are you passionate about?
Overall, I am passionate about my growth and awareness as a person in order to make an impact in society that I was meant to make. On a lighter side, my hobbies are skiing, biking, cooking feasts, writing, unconventional fitness, and building/creating.
